The International Ferry Terminal at Royal Quays, North Shields is only 12 miles north of Sunderland city centre. It's the North of England's main sea link with Northern Europe.
DFDS Seaways operate daily overnight services to/from Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) in Holland thoughtout the year. Short mini cruise breaks and longer holidays to the UK are available.
Buses operate from the terminal to Newcastle Central Station to connect to Sunderland via the local Metro with the overall journey taking around one hour. The nearest Metro station is Percy Main - a 15 minute walk from the terminal. Also catch the 9A bus from Sunderland to just outside the terminal.
