Historic Durham
The towers of Durham's magnificent Cathedral dominate the skyline of one of England's finest historic cities. Once the seat of power of the ruling Prince Bishops of the region, the Cathedral and Castle date from the end of the 11th Century and together are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sitting high above the surrounding landscape, they occupy an enviable natural setting on a bluff overlooking the River Wear.
