Washington Wetland Centre
A great family day out, this recreated wetland provides a 'stop over' and wintering habitat for migratory waterbirds after their passage over the North Sea. It is a haven for curlew and redshank and a breeding ground for flocks of herons.
The Wetland Discovery Centre offers both a window on the wide range of wildlife and a programme of art exhibitions.
Set in 45 hectares of stunning wetland and woodland on the River Wear, Washington Wetland Centre is one of the North East's biggest conservation success stories.
This vibrant and fascinating wetlands area is home to exotic birds, amazing insects, beautiful wild scenery and so much more.
